Computer Science Research Computing Facility User Guidelines 1. Any Computer Science faculty member can request accounts for Computer Science research. Non-research usage must be directed to other facilities. 2. The faculty member is responsible for assuring that such accounts obey appropriate restrictions on the use of the facility as may, from time to time, be agreed to by a Faculty Advisory Committee. 3. If the facility becomes overloaded, a priority system will be implemented. This priority system will take into account at least the following factors in favoring one user over another: * Participation in joint or individual proposals to obtain and augment the facility in the past and future. * The need to use this facility (as opposed to other campus facilities) in a unique way. * The potential of the research to benefit the Computer Science research environment at Berkeley. 4. All users that find it necessary to have access to Western Electric Company's proprietary UNIX software must sign the Agreement for Access to Proprietary UNIX Software. 5. The Faculty Advisory Committee will periodically review usage. If the facility is overcrowded, a more careful examination of current usage will be made and priorities among those who have requested accounts will be established. 6. Questions can be directed to the Chairperson of the Faculty Advisory Committee, currently Professor Richard Fateman. Agreement for Access to Proprietary UNIX Software I am either a student of the University of California, an employee of the University of California or both. It is necessary for me to have access to Western Electric Company's proprietary UNIX software in my role as student and/or employee. I have been notified that any disclosure to me of this software is made in confidence and that I am obligated to keep it in confidence. I understand that this obligation shall survive and continue after my access terminates, but that this obligation shall not extend to any information or technical data which is now available to the general public or which becomes available to the general public by acts not attributable to the University of California, its employees, or students.
